Joao Santos, the agent of Liverpool target Jorginho has revealed that his client came close to leaving Napoli during the summer transfer window, as claimed by talkSPORT.
Jorginho struggled for playing time last term, appearing just 13 times in Serie A which led to clubs showing an interest in the 23-year old in the summer, with the Reds keen to secure his services in order to amplify their options in midfield.
Now Santos claims his client is happy at Napoli despite a horde of interests from other clubs.
“Everything has changed since the summer,” Santos told gianlucadimarzio.com
“After the arrival of new players, we thought the moment had come to leave. A quality player like Jorginho can not sit on the bench.
“There were five sides interested in Jorginho: four Italian and one English. We were very close to leaving Napoli, then director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli arrived.
“He told us that the club really believed in him and considered him untouchable. Therefore we decided to postpone any discussions until January.”
Santos’ comments seem to suggest that Jorginho would be available in January, but it is unclear whether Liverpool new boss fancy the midfielder as it was former manager Brendan Rodgers who was keen to lure him to Anfield.
