Exclusive: Willian speaks on Brazilian stars and their future at Chelsea

Chelsea FC midfield maestro, Willian has backed his Brazillian counterpart, Alexandre Pato to succeed at the London club despite the wave of uncertainty about the Strikers future because of his slow start to his career at the club.

Alexandre Pato was signed on an initial loan deal from Brazillian side Corinthians during the winter transfer window in January but has made only two appearances for the Londoners, and looks likely to return to his parent club in the summer.

Yet Chelsea’s set piece specialist, Willian believes there is still time for his compatriot to show his true quality at Stamford Bridge. The Brazil forward said: “He has the desire to stay and I hope this can be resolved as quickly as possible. It would be very positive for us if he did. “I have a great relationship with him since the days in junior football and he is a very good friend of mine. He doesn’t know whether he will stay or go.”

On the future of Oscar, he said: “His Chelsea’s season was not good, he had some injuries. It’s hard, you end up losing a bit of confidence when you get hurt too. But all of us here know his potential, the quality he has, so hopefully next season not only him, but all of us can come strong in the run for the title.”

Willian also discussed his ambitions for the summer, with Brazil’s final 23-man squad for the Olympics due to be named on Thursday.
Brazil are also involved in the Copa America in June. Willian added: “If I had to choose between the Olympics and the Copa America, I would choose the Olympics. It is a title Brazil do not have.”
