Liverpool On The VERGE Of Signing £15m Star, Player’s Rep Meets Reds’ Official

Many Liverpool fans feel that Brendan Rodgers’ favorite shopping destination tends to lie in Southampton. After landing three players from the South coast club last summer, two of whom proved failures in the shape of Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren, and one on whom the jury is still out in the form of Adam Lallana, the Reds are reportedly close to signing promising full-back Nathaniel Clyne for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million.

Liverpool have already had an initial £10 million bid rejected for the player earlier in the summer. Clyne has just one year left to run on his current deal and that was probably the reason why the Reds were eyeing a cut price deal. However , new reports have emerged indicating that the Merseysiders are now prepared to meet Southampton’s valuation to bring Clyne to Anfield.

For Southampton’s part, they had deemed Clyne’s exit this summer as inevitable and have already signed Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon as a replacement.

The news will come as music to Reds fans’ ears as Right full back had been a problem position for the past two seasons. With Glen Johnson’s departure confirmed, and Javi Manquillo failing to nail down a first team spot, Liverpool required a competent full back. Finally, it seems they have finally found one in Clyne.

Clyne had a hugely successful season with Southampton last year, and has been earmarked as future England right back. Manchester United were also reportedly interested in his services , but Liverpool have possibly beaten them to his signature.
