Manchester United Suffer Yet Another Injury Woe

Manchester United Dutch Striker is set to undergo a scan on Monday to assess his ankle to ascertain the level of the injury he had against Southampton yesterday. Robin Van Persie limped off in the 61st minute of Manchester United’s defeat to Southampton and was consequently replaced by Ander Herrera. He will be facing an injury scan today to determine the degree of the injury. This scan would prevent him from attending the Ballon d’or ceremony, despite being up for goal of the year with his 2014 World Cup diving header against Spain, he would be up against the likes of Real Madrid’s Colombian international James Rodriguez and Republic of Ireland women international Stephanie Rochie.

Coach Louis Van Gaal has stated the Dutchman will be assessed tomorrow after sustaining what is feared to be an ankle injury; He however hopes the injury would not be too serious. The injury to Robin Van Persie makes it United’s 56th injury of the 2014/2015 just halfway through the season with the Dutchman picking up an hamstring injury earlier in the season while on International Break in November but as not missed any Premier League game for United due to injury.

It seems the injury curse placed on Manchester United does not look set on leaving the team soon. Manchester United coach Louis Van Gaal could not hide his excitement during his pre-match conference before Southampton’s match where he declared he had only one player injured. He was quoted to have said” Ï have to tell you that we have only one injured player, Ashley Young, it’s unbelievable”. He would be highly disappointed his favorite striker has joined Ashley Young on the sidelines. Robin Van Persie has been a steady performer this season with a total of 8 goals in 20 appearances. A lot of fans would agree that even though Robin Van Persie has scored a couple of goals this season his overall play this season has been disappointing. Some have called for Robin Van Persie to be benched so as to give players like Radamel Falcao and James Wilson a chance in the team.

Robin Van Persie has been favored by Coach Louis Van Gaal, who constantly fails to remove the Dutch striker during bad games. An example of such match was Manchester United’s match against Stoke City where Falcao was clearly out-working and out-playing Robin Van Persie only for Falcao to be subbed and Robin Van Persie was left on; Manchester United later drew that match 1-1 because of the failure to convert our chances in the match. Robin Van Persie might have been our top striker last 2 seasons, but has failed to replicate his past form despite having a couple of goals. The striker’s forward runs, finishing, decision-making has been poor this season, on several occasions this season Van Persie has been anonymous , contributing nothing to the team and the coach still leaves him on. A lot of fans have called for the striker to be benched all to no avail because of Louis Van Gaal’s warm heart towards him. However, with his injury expected to rule him out for some time Van Gaal will have no choice but be forced to use other strikers. This injury break will give him time to rest and regain his sharpness, as they say form is temporary, class is permanent but for now let other strikers have a chance to prove their worth to the team.
