The best replacements for Aubameyang across Europe

It’s safe to say that Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is among the top strikers in the world. But with the Gabonese superstar showing some reluctance to sign a new contract, it’s fair to say Arsenal should start scouting future replacements for the pacy hitman in case he leaves. According to reports, Aubameyang wants to join a team where he has a chance of winning the Champions League. It has been speculated that Barcelona wants to sign Aubameyang with the Catalan side wanting to sign a new striker. So now let’s look at some of the options that Arsenal have to replace Aubameyang.

Stars of tomorrow

The easiest option right now is for Arsenal to encourage their academy talents to become regular starters for their first-team squad. Gabriel Martinelli can occupy the position where Aubameyang currently plays. With the Brazilian being touted as one of the biggest young prospects right now, Arsenal can look to make Martinelli a starter for the team. He has scored 10 goals so far this season in 26 appearances. He already has been used as the starter in Aubameyang’s position whenever Aubameyang has been injured or suspended.   10 goals and 4 assists, Martinelli is certainly someone who Arsenal can consider to replace Aubameyang.

Another promising attacker that the Gunners currently have in their ranks is Buakyo Saka. Saka has been a starting left-back for Arsenal recently but his original position was that of a winger. Being a starter at left-back shows the versatility of the young prodigy. Saka’s first-team position status as a left-back might also be threatened by the return of Kieran Tierney, who has been  out with injuries for most of the season.

Arsenal can therefore certainly look to use their young guns as a replacement for Aubameyang. So who else might be available and be considered a suitable replacement.

Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota is a player whose value has been on a constant rise since signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017.   He has managed a superb tally of 15 goals and 6 assists in 37 games this season. It will be a win-win scenario for Arsenal if they manage to bring in Jota for a reasonable price. Jota who is only 23 years old, is terrifyingly quick and a superb dribbler. He has been mostly used by Wolves as a winger who can also play the role of an inside forward, a position which Aubameyang has been made to play after Mikel Arteta came in as the new Arsenal manager. A player who has proven himself in the Premier League on multiple occasions, Diogo Jota might be the best replacement for Aubameyang if he is available at the right price.

Timo Werner

Perhaps the most high profile name amongst all the ones mentioned here, Timo Werner is currently one of the hottest commodities in football right now. The   frontman has scored an insane 27 goals and got 12 assists in 36 games for RB Leipzig. Werner has been heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool for more than a year now. Arsenal though can swoop in and try to make a deal for the German talisman, with reportedly the German eager to leave the club at some stage. If Aubameyang leaves, it would be a great investment if they used the money received from the sale on Werner. Another major positive in this deal is that Werner who is an out and out centre forward is also able to play on the left-wing.

This deal would be ideal for Arsenal since Werner would be the perfect big-name signing which Arsenal will need if Aubameyang leaves for both on field performances and the commercial success he would bring to the club.

Conclusion

Using any of these talented players could prove to be highly advantageous for Arsenal. These young players bring a lot to the table and can easily turn around any game. With Aubameyang already in his 30s, it would be for the best that Arsenal begin looking for replacements in case his form dips.
