UCL Finalist Hands In Transfer Request In Favour Of Manchester United
Manchester United’s dream of getting that quality defender might finally come true by January as long-term target, Mats Hummels has reportedly planned to hand in a transfer request at the Signal Iduna Park, and could force a move away from the club when the winter transfer window opens.
The 26 year-old Germany international was on top of the target list for addition to the defensive department of the United squad during the summer transfer window, but the deal fell through and he signed a contract extension with Dortmund. But the start to the new contract hasn’t gone as planned, with the defender dropping form, largely to the training methods and tactics of the new coach, Thomas Tuchel. He has come under heavy criticisms of recent because of these and have fallen out with the coach.
He risks being dropped from the Germany squad for the Euros 2016 campaign due to his poor form and he is ready to make an exit by January and call time on his career at the club. LVG has talked of the need for another central defender following the injuries to majority of his backline, and will make the World Cup winner a priority once again.
Chris Smalling is the only regular defender left in the first team and is currently paired with midfielder, Blind, in the centre of the defence. Hummel’s arrival will make him partner the England international. With his new contract ending in 2017, the player’s fee will be minimal, and once he hands in a request, United will be ready to swoop on him and make sure a move works out.
