After Offering Him £200k-A-Week, Madrid Target Set To Play For Manchester United

Red Devils first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea has returned to training after admitting his hopes of playing for European giants Real Madrid have been distorted at least for another season. This is coming weeks after the Spaniard reportedly rejected Manchester United’s £200,000 a week contract offer

According to the Daily Mail, De Gea – who has been strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu – has apparently given up on his dream of manning Real’s goal post this season and has resumed training with United.

The former Atletico Madrid goalie missed United’s first two Premier League games against Tottenham and Aston Villa respectively but has now returned to training at Carrington, but he has now been dislodged as first-choice shot-stopper for the Red Devils as he will remain behind Sergio Romero in the pecking order, as per the report from Daily Mail.

The source said further that Real failed to meet up with the Red Devils’ valuation of £33m valuation of the Spain international goalkeeper. De Gea moved to Old Trafford in 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson and struggled initially before gaining prominence and becoming Man United’s player of the season for two consecutive campaigns.

Los Blancos ended their 25-year association with former captain Iker Casillas this summer, and reportedly pinpointed De Gea as the replacement for him. Although Real signed Kiko Casilla from Espanyol this summer, they still feel he and Keylor Navas are not fit to be the club’s number one goalkeeper, saying De Gea is the one.

However, it has now appeared the Spanish giants were baulked by United’s asking price for De Gea and the 24-year old is now set to remain at Old Trafford, at least for another season.
