Breaking News – Chelsea Activates Antoine Griezmann’s Release Clause

News breaking from Spain this morning has it that Chelsea have made a bid for Antoine Griezmann this morning. According to the reports, the blues are ready to pay a little above the Frenchman’s release clause in order to push through a very late move.

Griezmann who has been linked to Chelsea all summer is a fans’ favorite as many Chelsea fans believe signing him will guarantee the club the much needed goals in their title defense. The young French midfielder has been prolific for Atletico Madrid ever since he joined them from Real Sociedad in a deal said to be for £24 million. Although he is predominantly a central attacking midfielder, his form last season playing as a second striker and many times alone as the lone striker shows he can play the striking role.

Reportedly available for £46.5 million, should Chelsea sign Griezmann, they will not only be signing a player who can play the Fabregas role ( something Chelsea desperately need considering how woeful Fabregas has been in the last 10 games he played for Chelsea in competitive football ), he will also be a worthy option in attack when Diego Costa’s normal injury woe strikes. He can also play on both wings.

At just 24, Griezmann he still has his best years ahead of him and although if the reports are true and Chelsea are paying close to £50 million for him, the blues will be paying a bit too much for him but considering his age, he has good resale value and being a fans’ favorite, he will sell a lot of souvenir for the club.
