Manchester United Team News: De Gea, Schweinsteiger, Rojo Unvailable, Shaw & Darmian Likely To Start

With a tough start against Tottenham in sight for Manchester United, Louis Van Gaal will be revelling in ambience of his large squad despite the unavailability of Schweinsteiger, Rojo and De Gea.

The Dutch tactician is in the claim that the mental state of De gea, following the speculations linking him to a departure from Old Trafford,  has kept him out of selection, while the duo of Schweinsteiger and Rojo are yet to be certified fit for the task ahead.

For the crop of players that started the Premier League with Manchester United last season, only one can start against Tottenham. It is worth noting that since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, Van Gaal is building another team of contenders.

Looking at the defence, Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian may be rewarded with a debut after their impressive pre-season show-offs. At the heart of defence for United, Daley Blind may be partnering Chris Smalling. Blind has grown to become indispensible in the team, hence, his probable selection over Phil Jones.

In midfield, United’s midfield has been tweaked with the purchase some players. Although Schweinsteiger could be absent, Carrick and Schneiderlin would be providing the cover for either Ander Herrera or Juan Mata. A 4-2-3-2 formation might be the norm for United.

In the attack, Van Gaal is likely to field same front three that trumped Tottenham by 3-0 in February. Memphis Depay and Ashley Young will be led in attack by Wayne Rooney. For the attacking players, they performance has been mixed with good and bad performance. Rooney will have to adapt to the attacking role which he was different from his last season’s role.

Van Gaal will be looking to go better than the fourth position of last season. With the departures of three of his attacking players, Rooney will have to step up his goal scoring prowess else United could find themselves where David Moyes left them.
