Finally a World Class Defender? Man Utd Ready to Sign Bundesliga Star

A fresh name has been linked with a transfer move to Man Utd recently. According to reports in Germany, the Red Devils are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Ömer Toprak.

German publication Kicker claims that United have been scouting the former Turkish international and might make a move for him in summer transfer window.

Bayer are currently placed eighth in the German league and their hopes of clinching a European place at the end of the season are minimal. Their situation in the league might see a host of players leaving the club in summer.

The 26-year old has spent his entire career in Germany and made his senior debut for Freiburg in 2008. He moved to Leverkusen in 2011 and since then he has established himself in the club’s senior squad.

His current contract with the Bundesliga club expires in 2018, but he could be allowed to leave if the Red Devils make a substantial offer in the summer. Toprak could create a fantastic defending duo with Chris Smalling and finally solve current defensive crisis.
The report from Kicker hasn’t slapped a price tag on the centre-back, but it claims that the interest from the Manchester club in the player is genuine. He has made 124 league appearances for Leverkusen during his time with the club.
