With the unsuccessful attempt to bring Morgan Schneiderlin to the Emirates, Arsenal may have shifted focus elsewhere, albeit outside England. Activities in the summer window has indicated Arsenal’s interest in getting a quality defensive midfielder to the Emirates. A quest that saw them rebuffed by the Frenchman Schneiderlin, who rather preferred Manchester United.
Arsenal however remain undaunted and have set their sights on William Carvalho. According to reports in The Daily Star, a bid of £19.8m is being weighed up for the strong Portuguese Midfielder. Arsenal it seems are in a strong position as Manchester United’s interest may have cooled down. The 23 year old Sporting player is believed to have been a target for the North London outfit for a while now and this may see him joining the Emirates soon.
There may be a little snag though as it is understood that the player has a release clause of £37 million inserted into his contract. Arsene Wenger may be unwilling to go that far for a player who has shown plenty of promise over the years.
Carvalho is known for his imposing presence on the field and for a player who plays both in defensive midfield or the centre back; that can be quite an asset. He also has plenty of stamina. However, with his release clause a snag, Wenger will have plenty of cajoling to do in convincing Sporting Lisbon to part with their star.
