Chelsea DROP Interest In John Stones, Set To Sign WORLD Cup Finalist Instead

The most obvious and pressing need of Chelsea, is a defender and the EPL reigning champions have remained undaunted in their quest to making reinforcement in the defensive line of their squad – as reports are claiming that the Blues are keen on adding Zenith St. Petersburg’s Ezequiel Garay to their ranks, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio.

According to the reports, the EPL holders have opened talks with the Russian champions regarding the Argentine upon a request from Mourinho.

The 28-year-old former Benfica player has been lined up as a possible back-up to Stones in a contingency plan of Chelsea, as per the Daily Star.

The reports are also claiming that it is unclear if Stones will force a move out of Goodison Park this summer as he is not sure he will be handed first team football. Chelsea are desperately in search of a quality centre back following the shambolic start to John Terry and Cahill’s season.

Garay joined Benfica in the penultimate season for €15 (as per ESPN) from Benfica. Chelsea can lure him to Stamford Bridge for a far lesser amount than Stones.

The Argentina international has already won eight tackles in six games for his club this season with 89% pass accuracy. He will no doubt come good for the Blues.
