Chelsea OPEN TALKS With Atletico Madrid, Griezmann To Become A Chelsea Player

Chelsea are locked in talks with Atletico Madrid over the Spanish club’s desire to re-sign Filipe Luis this summer, according to reports.

Le10 Sport says the two clubs are in discussions over a €20 million bid to take the defender back to the Vicente Calderon (via Squawka).

The 29-year old left back starred for Atletico during the 2013-14 season, in which they won the La Liga title and also reached the UEFA Champions League final.

His starring role, however, prompted a move to Chelsea but it has not worked out fine so far. Cesar Azpilicueta’s impressive performance at the left-back position limited Luis to only 15 league appearances, completing 90 minutes of footballing action just 7 times.

Reports have however suggested that Luis would only prefer to return to Atletico, with boss Diego Simeone also keen on a reunion.

Gulherme Siqueira who was brought in as a replacement for Luis has been inconsistent so far, so Simeone would welcome the move.

Respected Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio claims the two clubs have already begun negotiations over the deal, as per Daily Star.

Diego Simeone has also spoken about the purported move. “He’s a player we’re very fond of and he knows us well and gave so much to the team. I hope this one comes off”, the manager said of Luis’ possible return.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to use this as an opportunity to wrap up Antoine Griezmann’s signature. The Frenchman was a pivotal member of the Rojiblancos last term having just signed from Real Sociedad.

His contribution of 22 goals in 37 appearances for Atletico has impressed Chelsea who are very keen on signing him.

Blues boss, Jose Mourinho wants to add a scoring winger to his ranks ahead of next season. Douglas Costa was a potential target but he opted to join Bayern as the Blues failed to make a bid.

Both clubs would probably discuss the moves (Luis’ and Griezmann’s) in their negotiations, I believe. Chelsea will want to include Luis plus cash in a swap deal for the 24-year old Griezmann, as opposed to a loan move Atletico reportedly want.

Should Luis leave, Augsburg’s Baba Rahman may be signed by Chelsea as his replacement.

Pedro is however another player who interests the Stamford Bridge club and Goal has revealed earlier that a bid of £20 million was in the cards for the 27-year old Spain international.
