Chelsea Star Suffers Suspected Fracture On International Duty

Belgian and Chelsea’s playmaker Eden Hazard has taken a knock to his toe we can confirm. Hazard played all 90minutes for Chelsea on Sunday against rival Arsenal scoring from the spot after he was felled by Laurent Koscieny. Chelsea will go on to win the game 2-0 and extent their lead at the top of the table to five points.

Hazard has since joined up with his national side in preparation for their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Andorra and Bosnia Hezegovina.

However, fresh report coming from coach Marc Wilmots’ side is that Hazard has taken a knock to his toe and that has left his toe blue. What cannot be ascertain though is whether the injury was incurred during the Arsenal game or a re-occurence of the same injury he carried during games at the FIFA 2014 world cup in Brazil. What is more worrying is the talk of it been a fracture in some quarters.

“His toe looks blue, but there is certainly not a fracture. Hopefully Eden may join the group as soon as possible.” – Marc Wilmots.

The coach also talk about the head injury to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtios after his collision with Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez during Sunday game and praised Chelsea’s medicals for their efforts. He also expressed optimism that the Chelsea shot stopper will be fit in time to face Andorra on 10th October.

He said “We must of course wait and see what the doctors say, but I expect him to play. I’ve already spoken to Thibaut on Sunday. The collaboration with the medical staff of Chelsea is excellent. An hour after the game, I knew the results of the investigations already. Tests take place Tuesday in consultation with our doctors. But I get only positive signals. Thibaut even today feels a lot better.”

The fact that Hazard’s injury isn’t  a fracture should be good news to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who needs his best players fit to mount a title challenge.

Hazard has been one of the best performer for Chelsea this season. Against Arsenal he showed his speed and trickery getting away from three Arsenal players before being tripped by Laurent Koscielny. He dispatched the resultant spot kick with aplomb sending Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way. He has featured in all of Chelsea’s nine game in the Premier league and the Uefa champions league this season scoring two goals and assisting two.

Belgium coach and his medical staff should do a proper assessment of the injury and if possible rest him against Andorra as they have good enough players that can help prosecute their game and I don’t see Andorra being much of a threat to the Belgian at home.
