Chelsea Target Arrives For Medical, Set To Pen Four Years Contract

When news filtered in that Chelsea were interested in Cagliari’s Godfred Donsah, eyebrows were raised largely by a lot of our supporters. Firstly, it was because the midfielder was a relatively unknown name and secondly, it was felt he is not what we really needed right now. However, Donsah -dubbed the new Michael Essien – will not be playing for Chelsea as he is set to remain in Italy.

Donsah’s agent Arthur Oliver revealed to Tuttomercatoweb that the Cagliari midfielder is on the verge of signing for Serie A side Bologna. The 19-year old had a breakthrough season last term, although Cagliari got relegated to the Serie B.

His admirable performances sparked an interest from Chelsea, alongside Tottenham, but we were placed as frontrunners for his services. Jose Mourinho even reportedly sent representatives to Italy to finalise the negotiations, but it appears the manager’s interest faded away and reports have thereafter linked us to Juventus’ Paul Pogba.

Donsah’s agent has even claimed the transfer to a Serie A side with Bologna was the plan all along, suggesting we were not even really in for the player.

“He is happy he chose Bologna for having the chance to play and to be in Serie A was his goal,” Arthur said.

“He is young and should receive priority to time to play and increase his experience.”

Tuttomercatoweb has also revealed Donsah is undergoing his medical at the club and the announcement is imminent.

Even if it was true Chelsea had submitted a bid for him, Donsah is no more needed at Stamford Bridge and in all fairness was not even needed in the first place. Jose has been targeting a top notch central midfielder who would sit next to Nemanja Matic in our midfield, as that of Fabregas-Matic or Ramires-Matic has been quite fragile. The latter cost us against Manchester City as there was not enough shield for the defence – with Ramires having a knack to always run forward at any given chance.

Paul Pogba has been strongly linked to the Blues, and The Sun, amongst others, have claimed a bid of around £70m has been agreed by Chelsea and Juventus for the Frenchman’s services.

It will be one massively brilliant coup for us if we get Pogba, who would certainly form a formidable central midfield partnership with the left-footed Matic. At 22, Pogba is adjudged one of the best central midfielders in world football, and several European heavyweights are also interested. Therefore, it will make perfect sense for us if we finally get him THIS SUMMER! What do you reckon Chelsea fans?
