According to reports, Argentina and Benfica midfielder, Nicolas Gaitan, is still keen on a move away from the Portuguese giants; with Manchester United mooted as his next potential destination.
The 27 year-old winger has been at the club for the past five years, and has established himself as an integral part of the squad, also winning two Primeira liga titles in over 200 appearances for the club. Manchester United were expected to have wrapped up a deal for the player since the start of the transfer window, but for certain uncertainties that arose in negotiations.
At the moment, however, with Di Maria now closer than ever to United’s exit door, his club are believed to be ready to activate his £21.5 million release clause to broker a deal, but are reported to be sweating on the outcome of Angel Di Maria, who is reportedly only whiskers away from joining French league side PSG.
Both Gaitan and Di Maria play in similar positions, and it is believed that United coach Louis van Gaal wants either of the two players, not both. The former, Gaitan, is allegedly already looking forward to life in Manchester, and hopes to agree to a move soon.
