Man United Make Approach For Valencia Ace, To Join In January

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to amplify his options in the wide areas and the Dutchman has pinpointed Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli as the ideal fit. Now, the Metro has chipped in with a claim that the Red Devils have made initial approach to sign Feghouli in January. The Algerian attacking midfielder is in the final year of his contract at Valencia and is yet to agree an extension to the deal.

Citing Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Metro claims United are aiming to take advantage of Feghouli’s contract situation at the Mestalla, and have made the first approach for the brilliant midfielder. Feghouli, 25, will be fit to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January and, Manchester United will, as per the report, look to seal the deal when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

However, Louis van Gaal’s side will have to fend off competitions from fellow Premier League contenders Tottenham and Serie A giants Inter Milan in order to complete the signature of the all-action footballer. Feghouli joined Valencia in the summer of 2010 from Grenoble and is a full-time Algerian international with 35 caps – having represented France at the Under-18s and Under-21s levels.

United are struggling on the wings, with summer recruit from PSV Eindhoven Memphis Depay struggling to replicate the form that saw him notch 22 goals for the Eredivise champions last term. Therefore, Feghouli could prove to be the solution for Man United’s problems on the wings. But the Algerian’s versatility means he can also operate in the central midfield role.
