Done Deal – Manchester United Already Signed “Surprise Striker” Medical Passed

So far this summer, United boss has sanctioned the departures of strikers Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie, with both players joining Chelsea and Fenerbahce respectively.

The Dutchman is now understood to be searching for a new striker in a bid to further strengthen his team in the forward line, with reports saying he is looking to make a surprise striker signing.

However, Metro understands van Gaal seem to have declared he may not be looking at any other strikers and could opt to deploy Memphis Depay as a striker come next season.

The aforementioned broadsheet claimed according to some Dutch reports, Memphis Depay could be Louis van Gaal’s secret Manchester United striker.

Metro quotes United boss, Van Gaal as saying: “I don’t know if I want to sign a striker. I have read in the media that a striker is the surprise.

“No, that I have not said. You are saying that, because my answer is like that. No, I mean something else.”

Something else? That begs a point and also brings about the suggestion that the “something else” could mean the Dutchman could convert his compatriot into a main striker next term.

As per Metro, Dutch paper Metro News also seem to have the answer and this agrees with the suggestion that Depay is going to be displayed as a striker this coming season.

Depay himself has also urged van Gaal to make him a striker, admitting he could be the solution to United’s striker shortage next campaign, according to an Express report. The former PSV ace says he can form a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney and that the 29-year old Englishman has begun to give him hints and tips, during the pre-season tour of America on, how to be a Premier League goal scorer.

“Wayne coached me a lot through the game and talked to me about which position I should take and how to defend.

“We have to form a duo and I have the right feeling with him. It’s an honour to play with such a legend like Wayne.”

Depay’s goalscoring exploit with in the Eredivise last term provides evidential support for him. The 21-year old Netherlands star scored 22 goals for PSV in the league last term, helping the Dutch outfit to the title.

Like Suarez, the Dutchman could also go on to be a world-beater as a striker. The Uruguayan hitman started out as a winger in his early days and has now developed into one of the world’s fiercest striker, forming, unarguably, the world’s best forward trio in the game with Neymar and Messi at Barcelona.

Suarez excelled at Ajax, scoring a daunting 81 goals in 110 appearances at the Dutch club between 2007 to 2011 before moving to Liverpool in 2011. He also tormented the Premier League defences, notching up an impressive 69 goals in 110 games. So far ar Barcelona, he and played 27 times and scored 16 goals.

Hence, should van Gaal decide to convert Depay into a centre forward, he can also go on to emulate Luis Suarez.

Meanwhile, United are set to tackle Barcelona tonight in a pre-season friendly encounter and both Depay and Rooney are expected to feature.
