After going all quiet on the transfer front for Manchester United in the last couple of weeks, the club is now set to announce a duo of deals, including the signing of Matteo Darmian of Torino.
Louis van Gaal has taken to the club’s official Twitter account to confirm that the Red Devils are “pursuing the signing” of the Torino defender. Though, the news of the player’s imminent arrival has been in the public domain in the last couple of weeks, van Gaal’s all-but confirms that Darmian is set to be a Manchester United player anytime from now.
“Louis van Gaal confirms #mufc are pursuing the signing of Matteo Darmian from Torino,” a tweet on the club’s official Twitter account reads.
Speaking earlier on speculations surrounding the player’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford, van Gaal was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: “Matteo Darmian, I’ve read that in the papers. That is true.”
Reports of the player’s arrival at Manchester on Friday evening fuelled further speculations that his deal would soon be announced any moment as he was also said to have undergone a medical shortly after his arrival.
The Italian full-back is expected to add quality to a Manchester United backline that is in urgent need of a player of his magnitude. After struggling to finish in the fourth position last season, and not being able to make it to the Champions League two seasons ago, the Red Devils are poised to challenge other teams for next season’s EPL title.
