Four Signings In Four Days, United Agree Another Deal, €40m Deal Agreed

Manchester United have agreed to sign Nicolas Gaitan, reports confirm. As per Goal, the Red Devils have a €40 million agreement in place for the Benfica winger should Angel Di Maria leave the club this summer.

Gaitan’s release clause is £25.2 million but United will pay slightly more, as they are said to have reached a verbal agreement with the Argentine.

However, Metro says £28.7 million is the transfer agreement fee between Man United and Benfica.

Gaitan will only move to Old Trafford, though, only if compatriot Di Maria leaves. This has been labelled by various media outfits as “weird” or “unusual”.

Man United have long been linked to the 27-year old winger and this latest report have confirmed the interest.

Di Maria arrived England last summer for a British record fee of £59.7 million, but he has now been touted to move on after spending just one season with the Red Devils.

The 28-year old shone in the early part of the season for United, but injuries and a reported “fall-out” with boss, Louis Van Gaal later subjected Di Maria to a bench role. He managed to score only three league goals (Squawka), as he failed to live up to his hefty price tag.

Despite this, he still ended the season as United’s most creative player with 10 assists and a creation of 51 chances.

The burglary of his £4million mansion in February has also left his wife in shock, and this is also why the former Real Madrid man wants to leave the UK. Bayern Munich, however remains a possible destination.

United boss, Van Gaal has already got his transfer business up and running, with the signings of Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian from PSV and Torino respectively for a combined fee of 37.9million.

Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger has also agreed to join the club after the two clubs confirmed the agreement yesterday.

Hence, should Di Maria leave, United already have a capable replacement in place in the 27-year Gaitan. Gaitan also enjoyed a great season with the Portuguese champions last term winning the Primeira Liga and the Taca Da Liga.

The former Boca Juniors wide man has played 127 times and scored 21 goals for the Portuguese club.
