Liverpool vs Man Utd

Four Talking Points from Liverpool vs. Man Utd – on Benteke, De Gea, Rooney

Man Utd, yesterday, claimed a morale-boosting 1-0 win against arch rivals Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds dominated the proceedings for much of the game, but lost the contest to the 78th-minute strike from Wayne Rooney.

Here are the main talking points from the game:

1) Wayne Rooney is back in form, and that’s awesome news for Louis Van Gaal

Rooney scored his first goal after 11 years at Anfield to clinch the three points for his side.  The 30-year-old forward, who was struggling with his goal-scoring form early in the season, has now scored five goals in last four appearances for United.

Louis Van Gaal’s side has struggled to score goals this season and Wayne Rooney’s return to form is excellent news for the Dutchman.

2) Jurgen Klopp is lacking a goalscorer in his side.

On the other hand, Jurgen Klopp is struggling with a lack of goals in his side. With the loss of Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Philippe Coutinho to injuries, there is a serious lack of goal threat in the Reds’ squad.

Christian Benteke is the only fit striker at the moment, but quite clearly he doesn’t suit Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Which brings us to our next point.

3) Are Christian Benteke’s days numbered at Anfield?

He arrived in a whopping £32.5 million deal from Aston Villa in the summer. However, his career has hit a roadblock since the arrival of Klopp at Anfield.

He clearly doesn’t suit to Klopp’s high pressing style, and the German has preferred Roberto Firmino ahead of the Belgian to lead the team’s attack in the games against Arsenal and Man Utd.

So the big question is: Is Benteke’s Liverpool career over even before starting?
  1. David De Gea is the most important player in the United squad

Man Utd goalkeeper David De Gea made some crucial saves yesterday to keep them in the game.

He is, without a doubt, United’s most important player at the moment. The Spaniard goalkeeper has saved his manager’s face on a number of occasions this season now.
