GREAT NEWS – £35m Deal Done, Manchester United To ANNOUNCE Surprise Deal

According to El Confidential, Manchester United have an option to sign Valencia central defender Nicolas Otamendi. The Spanish source even went further to reveal that he has informed Valencia that he wants to leave.

The strong central defender had a strong outing last season as he led the way amongst central defenders in the division by scoring the most goal (6) and having the most clearances (267).

The central defender is reported to have a release clause from his contract at the Mestella which is at £35 million (£50 million) but this shouldn’t be a stumbling block to United’s pursuit of the defender due to the influx of cash into the Premier League by the new bumper TV deal and also that United are a European powerhouse with a solid financial base.

The United backline was less than impressive last season as they made 29 defensive errors in the Premier League with only three sides having a worse record. The United defence had to rely on the brilliance of their Spanish goal keeper to bail them out on numerous occasions with series of world class saves. His superb season earned him the best player award at the club for the season, the goal keeper of the year for the Premier League and a transfer target for Spanish club Real Madrid.

Louis van Gaal will do well to sign a strong center back as his team try to mount a serious title challenge this coming season. Otamendi fits the bill as he is a no nonsense center back. He also led the La Liga defensive activities chart (406).

Manchester United have also been linked with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos but Madrid’s reluctance to play ball makes Otamendi a much more realistic option.
