Manuel Pellegrini Practically Confirms Manchester City’s New Signing

With reports claiming that Manchester City are closing in on Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony; coach Manuel Pellegrini has all but confirm that the Ivory Coast international will be joining the reigning EPL Champions.

The Chilean, who is adamant that City needs to add some more firepower to its attacking line-up, said the Ivorian is capable of firing his club to the title this season.

City are said to have made a £27 million offer, with reports claiming both clubs (Swansea and City) almost reaching an agreement. The transfer fee could, however, rise to £30 million with add-ons.

“I think it’s important you have the squad you think you need,” he said. “Last season we had four strikers, and the four strikers were useful to win the title.

“You cannot say that because you are bringing in another striker you are going to win.

“But in the first part of the season it’s important to analyse and I assure you that we need a fourth striker that we are bringing in.

“If that striker will help we suppose we are going to be a strong squad with him,” the Chilean was quoted to have said in the Manchester Evening News.

Though, Pellegrini did not name the player his club was pursuing in particular, it is however, clear that he was talking about Bony. Perhaps, nothing points to Bony being the player Pellegrini was talking about better than a statement credited to Swansea City manager Gary Monk who had this to say:

“There are talks between the two clubs and at this moment in time it’s ongoing,” Monk said.

City are in the market for another striker after allowing Alvaro Negredo move out on loan to Valencia; and Bony could yet be the striker that takes the place of the Spanish international.

£30 million is a lot of money to spend in January, but Bony is one player that adds a lot of quality to any team regardless of how strong your team is already. The thought of having a squad comprising of Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic, and Bony will send shivers down the spine of other teams in the EPL.
