Why Aguero Could Persuade Messi To Join City

Reports of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona have been all over the media in recent days, with some British tabloid linking the 27 year old with a move to both Chelsea and Manchester City. That appears to have been taken to a new height as his teammate in the Argentine national team, Sergio Aguero took to twitter to post the biggest hint of a possible move to the Etihad Stadium.

Messi is unsettled at Barca, and the possibility of a departure cannot be ruled out. The Argentine was left on the bench in a league match involving his team and Real Sociedad, which the former lost by a lone goal. With his release clause said to be in the region of £210 million, not many clubs in Europe can afford that; but of course, such hefty transfer fee cannot be put beyond City and Chelsea.

Messi’s total transfer package could cost as much as £500 million, according reports, and a club like City won’t have much difficulty finding a way around it, regardless of FFP.

The tweet posted by Aguero could well be the biggest hint yet of a possible move, and this could excite all City fans. City already boasts of one of the most formidable squads in the Europe, and signing a player of Messi’s calibre could transform them into one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Aguero could hold all the aces in making this transfer possible, and this is based on the cordial relationship that exists between both players. We have seen situations like this before; players are known to play major roles in luring other players to their clubs. As a matter of fact, Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas was quoted recently when he said he would prefer to see Lionel Messi in Chelsea.

The transfer window is still a couple of weeks away from closing; but if it doesn’t happen this winter window, the summer window presents another possibility, and we could yet see Lionel Messi donning the sky blue shirt of Manchester City.
