Photo: Manchester United fan falls asleep, perfectly summarizes Van Gaal tactics
Louis Van Gaal has been known for quite a mundane style of play and many would describe the Dutchman’s tactics as a little on the boring side.
But are they really that boring that the fans are actually falling asleep during matches? It appears so as one Manchester United fan took a light snooze during the weekend’s deserved but lackluster victory over already-relegated Aston Villa.
After the match finished with a United victory, Louis Van Gaal fully admitted that they were some way off the pace and the players had not really got out of second gear: ‘It was not our best performance; of course, you have seen it for yourself. I think we played too slowly and it was also difficult as they were playing very defensively and very compact.’
Compact is not a word that has been used to describe Villa this season after shipping 65 goals so far. Aston Villa fans have endured a nightmare season which has seen them pick up just 16 points from a possible 102.
In a dull match which seemed to involve the players simply ‘going through the motions’ Marcus Rashford provided only a brief moment of excitement when he hit a sweet shot after 32 minutes and the ball went straight past Brad Guzan in goal. Villa managed a single attempt on target and the fans were less than impressed.
So how boring was it?
