Steven Naismith Burns Chelsea

Chelsea might just be the new Liverpool by the end of the season, as their chances of finishing in top 4 continue to look all dim. The defending champions suffered another heavy loss at the weekend, as they got thrashed by Everton 3 goals to 1. Chelsea’s poor form since the beginning of the season did point out to the earlier fact that a win at Goodison Park was far from reach, but nobody saw another defeat with such margin coming, and it took only a man, Scotland international, Steven Naismith to single-handedly send the visiting side to the cleaners.

The solid presence of Chelsea reject, Romelu Lukaku, Kone, Barry and McCarthy continuously made sure Everton were going to come out victorious. Chelsea’s possession wasn’t enough in an afternoon full of dazzling displays from the home side.

Costa was constantly seeming like a threat for the opposition, but he couldn’t get his balls to Tim Howard, and it took only an outside-of-the-yard shot from Matic to get Chelsea on the goal sheet. Stones showed why Chelsea is missing out on him, as his solid presence at the back kept the Chelsea attack at bay.

Jagielka was also able to minimize the Blues’ threat, as Hazard was visibly missing in action. Ivanovich at the other end on the right back was woeful by all standards, as he couldn’t handle the pace of Naismith who had put 2 goals at the back of the net before half time.

Nemanja Matic’s goal gave Chelsea hope for parity as they headed into the break, but the all-round display from the Pensioners never made them deserve a point from the match. Zouma and Terry couldn’t contain the Everton attack, with the likes of Galloway, Naismith and Barkley constantly giving stand-in goalie, Begovic a busy noon. Begovic was called into action all of the time, but his saves weren’t enough to save his team any point. Chelsea’s displays continue to pile pressure on Mourinho, and its not likely to surprise many if they fail to appear in the Champions League next season.
