Almost done – Liverpool on the verge of signing this £75,000-a-week goalscorer

Liverpool target Dries Mertens is reportedly stalling on signing a new contract with Napoli as he is considering a move to Anfield. His recent form has triggered talk he should be given a new deal, with his current one set to expire in 2018, reports CalcioMercato. Mertens has six goals in 14 games this season, setting up assisting two others. Inter Milan are also reportedly keen on acquiring his services.

Liverpool recently made a move for the player but his agent, Soren Lerby, denied the claims stating that his client will not complete a move away from Napoli in January: “I have heard the rumours but there is nothing absolutely concrete. We are not talking about this rumours, Dries is not moving in January.”

The player who joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven is also attracting the interest of Serie A leaders Inter Milan and other Premier League clubs with Liverpool looking keener for his services. The Belgian is quite versatile up front and can play through the middle or on the wings as he is capable of fulfilling different roles in a team.
