Baba Rahman Agrees Personal Terms With Chelsea

With the departure of Chelsea left back, Filipe Luís, the club have now turned their attention to Augsburg  left back, Baba Rahman. The Ghana international contributed immensely to the club’s stay in the German top flight, and was phenomenal for his national side during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

His time with the German club seems to have come an end after Chelsea and the player’s agent agreed personal terms for his signature. However, a final transfer fees is still being negotiated by both clubs, but all things being equal, the 21 year-old defender should be in Stamford bridge come next season.

His arrival could see Cesar Azpilicueta return to right back – his rightful position before being deployed to the left due to Filipe Luís’ fumbling performances. Although it is not expected that Baba immediately breaks into the first team in a side full of great qualities, but his age no doubt makes him a long-term option in his position. Baba is also versatile, as he can play excellently well in the heart of the defence. Chelsea’s coach has talked of adding to his backline over the summer, he said after the F.A Cup loss to Arsenal,

“I say we need seven plus a quality kid. A quality kid we have. It’s just a question of make a final decision and deciding who to get.”

Whom to get wouldn’t be an issue any more, and with an ageing defense department, Rahman definitely comes handy. Chelsea have had issues with their leftback department of recent, and Filipe’s buy and eventual-sell is bad business for the Pensioners. The Blues earlier loaned out former youth team left back, Ryan Bertrand to Southampton, and he went on to have a good season, making it to the PFA team of the season. Chelsea will be spending around 25 million Euros in order to acquire the services of the 21 year-old Baba Rahman.
