Confirmed – Liverpool Agreed A Deal For World Cup Winner

Reports in the media said New Manchester United signing; Victor Valdes was heading to Anfield before Louis Van Gal convinced him to join his Old Trafford side. This much was revealed by no less a person than Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, who told Sky Sports he was convinced the Spanish goalkeeper was going to sign with Liverpool.

“I was absolutely convinced that he was going to Liverpool. I have got very good reasons to say so and I know a lot of people in Liverpool who also thought he was going. But he felt that he was being trialled at Anfield.

“And very cleverly, Louis van Gaal said we are not going to trial you, just come and train with us. But in a way, it was the same thing. It was just the choice of words he used, so Valdes decided to go there instead,” said the Spanish journalist, who also used the occasion of the program to answer a few other questions.

Players are known to take last minute decisions because of the influence of some managers, and LVG just goes to prove what we have always known about top managers and their influence when it comes to transfers.

Liverpool do need a top quality goalkeeper considering the erratic performances of the number one goalie, Simon Mignolet. The Belgian international has failed to impress his manager this season.

A couple of months back, the Daily Mail had reported that Liverpool were looking to seal a deal for Valdes, which confirms Balague’s statement that the Spanish goalkeeper was on his way to signing for the Kops. If the Kops were actually interested in signing the former Barcelona goalkeeper, one wonders why they follow it up with a firm bid or did Valdes change his mind at the last minute?

While Valdes may struggle with wrestling the number one shirt from David de Gea at United, it would have been a different thing at Liverpool had he signed for the Anfield side.
