€35m Bid Made, Chelsea Target Set To Sign, Abramovich Wanted Him

According to recent reports, Italian side AC Milan are in pole position to land Zenit St Petersburg Alex Witsel ahead of Premier League champions Chelsea. The seven time UEFA Champions League winners have been fortunate to have some funds pumped into them by new stakeholder Bee Taechaubol and are reportedly ready to part with as much €35 million to land the Belgian midfielder ahead of Chelsea. This weeks after reports that Abramovich is keen on the player.

It is understood that personal terms have been agreed between Witsel and AC Milan but Zenit St Petersburg are reportedly not willing to let the Belgian leave the club for any fee less than €35 million. AC Milan will be looking to make Alex Witsel their ninth signing of the season as they begin their squad re-building and plan to regain their place among the top clubs in Europe. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be disappointed on losing out Zenit St Petersburg Alex Witsel.

The Blues were linked to the Belgian earlier in the transfer window but a move failed to materialise. Presently Chelsea are lacking squad depth as they plan to challenge in four competitions this season. Squad depth was key to Chelsea’s double trophy triumph last season and the Blues need Squad depth to achieve the same feat this year.

The Blues have reportedly been chasing Juventus Paul Pogba for a long while but Belgian’s Alex Witsel could have been a cheaper and suitable alternative to the Frenchman.  The 26 year old is big, strong, agile for his size , can control the midfield and be a good holding midfielder. Chelsea will be disappointed on missing out on Alex Witsel as he could have gone on to become a great player for Chelsea.
