Manchester United are chasing French defender Raphael Varane. Varane could help shake up Uniteds defense undeniably. The Reds have struggled to contain oppositions from tearing their defense apart due to a lack of quality and consistency in the CB role.
However, Varane is only willing to join the Red Devils provided that Jose Mourinho is in charge. Not doubt about it Jose Mourinho offers an edge over many managers due to his reputation.
Player is not only attracted to club but who is in charge of the club. Should Mourinho join the Red Devils, it is guaranteed to appear a much more likely destination for top stars- Varane included.
Manchester United reportedly tried to sign Varane under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2011 but had to settle for Phil Jones as the Real Madrid pipped them to his signature. It appears the Red Devils are back in for him years later after missing out on first choice Mats Hummels.
It’s seems United are making quite the habit of losing out on their transfer targets. They could lose James Rodrigues as secret talks have emerged with Juventus and they already lost starlet Renato Sanches to Bayern this week as well.
Moreover, Van Gaal still has an additional year to his contract and United have given nothing away with regards to letting him leave. That would be a dangerous move as Mourinho might not still be around in a years time and they would have lost out on top players on the move such as Rodrigues and Varane. It remains to be seen if United are going to trust Van Gaal with yet another transfer chest to blow.
The Frenchman has struggled to consistently appear for the Bernabeu side as Pepe and Ramos hold the back four on most occasions. Without being able to maintain a regular starting spot at Real Madrid this season when it appeared that fellow Frenchman and coach Zidane would favour him could have given Varane the last bit of patience to stay.
The defender has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bernabeu and many of Europe’s top clubs will be looking to snatch him up if United fail to.
The Red Devils have reportedly held talks with the defender over the possibility of a £30million move, but the Daily Star claim he will snub a move to Old Trafford if Louis van Gaal stays on next season. This is completely understandable. More so, if they don’t qualify for Champions league.
However, Van Gaal still has an additional year to his contract and United have given nothing away with regards to letting him leave. The Dutch man could still win the FA Cup and secure his future while ruining United’s at the same time.
That would be a dangerous move as Mourinho might not still be around in a years time and they would have lost out on top players on the move. It remains to be seen if United are going to trust Van Gaal with yet another transfer chest to blow. At least they do know one thing, if he is there- Varane surely won’t be.
