Roman Abramovich Sanctions Mega £46m Move For Chelsea

Atletico’s rise to relevance under Argentine coach Diego Simeone’s guidance after successful campaign at National level and Continental levels have taken some of their main players to new heights. Players like Arda Turan and Diego Costa have already left to clubs with bigger pay packages, while some such as Antoine Griezmann and Koke have become some of the most sought after players in Europe in the current transfer window.

And Spanish Newspaper Marca, has now said, Chelsea and Bayern Munich were clubs in the chase for Koke this summer, even making a mammoth offer of 65 million euros bid-extra 5 million euros over his release clause to take him away from the Vicente Calderon. Still, Atletico Madrid were able to convince the Spanish International midfielder that it was best for him to remain at the club, and it has worked.

Koke is a talented and versatile midfielder, who is capable of playing across all midfield positions in Simeone’s 4-4-2 formation. Chelsea’s pursuit of Koke should not come as a surprise, but even more surprising is Atletico’s capability to convince the player to stay at the Madrid base club this season despite tempting offers from bigger clubs and the enticing wages on offer. Maybe Chelsea can finally have him in the next summer transfer window, just like they were able to land Diego Costa.
