20-time English champions Manchester United have handed a trial to Keith Groeneveld and the young defender has uploaded pictures of his first day at Carrington.
The 16-year old youngster has flown to Manchester from his Belgian club KV Mechelen and is spending the week with the Reds before returning to his parent club.
The South African defender, who had trained with United a few years back when he was at Antwerp, could not hide his happiness as he took to Instagram to post photographs of him looking proud in United’s training kit.
The teenager hopes to follow his fellow Belgian Adnan Januzaj’s footsteps, to complete a permanent move to United after impressing during his trial back in 2011.
However, with so many talented youngsters ahead of him in pecking order, he may have to wait for his chances.
It is rumoured that although Van Gaal is willing to hand youngsters the opportunity to prove themselves on the big stage, he will have to prove that he deserves the chance ahead of the other talented youngsters at the club.
One thing is for sure, the young defender will have to buck up a little to challenge physically in the Premier League, something that he will find common across the different levels of football, in addition to the frenetic and end-to-end football.
